Kit Out Project – Putting the OUT into Scouting

9 April 2024

We are really excited to share with you, our new Kit Out scheme. This scheme has been designed to remove the barriers of kit costs for young people who are unable to take part in hiking, camping and outdoors activities due to the cost of living crisis.

Essentialy the scheme will be a ‘gear share’ project where we will make these activities more accessible to young people in our community, both in our district and further afield including other Districts, Schools and other charities.

We have secured a grant of over £8,000 for the purpose of setting up and running this scheme which we hope to launch later in the summer term. We are working on getting this set up and will share more on how to access the scheme soon.

With a scheme list this we need volunteers to make it happen and we are looking for people who’d like to get involved. We are looking for a Team Lead (role description) to manage this day to day, but also to help get this set up. We’re also looking for a number of team members (role description) who once the scheme launches are able to support with checking kit in/out and helping to maintain it.

Both these roles can be either done alongside an existing role in Scouting or as a standalone role which maybe perfect for parents, grandparents or anyone else looking to make a difference to young people behind the scenes, so please do share this news onwards.

If you are interested in getting involved please drop an email to kitout@bescouts.org.uk and let us know which role you are interested in.

We are really proud to be launching this scheme and look forward to sharing more with you soon.
